ACL

This weekend Miguel and I went to ACL and saw Manu Chao and the Foo Fighters. The tickets to ACL were Miguel's birthday gift because she just LOVES anything having to do with live music. I will post other pictures later.

Children...

Today I went to Marshalls and was very upset to see the following...
An adult kept on... basically harrasing a child by telling him that he was "stupid" and that she would "kick his a**." The poor child... his name is Diego was hardly misbehaving, he was just being a child. At that time he should have been at school, not at the store with... I think it was his sibling. I could not help myself anymore and I had to stop her. I told started by telling her that "Diego" is a beautiful name and that she should not be telling him that he was stupid, that she would only make him have a poor self-esteem. She proceeded to ask him if he had a low self-esteem and prompted him to obviusly say no. Poor child... I was devistated. I was saddened because she was probably treated that way; I was sad because that child will grow to be an adult who believes that he deserves nothing more than failure. It makes me sick to see an adult treating a child in that manner and would have done anything to make that woman understand that she is doing no good when she calls a child stupid. In fact, she is demonstrating that she is pretty ignorant herself. I told her that I had seen research and she just dismissed my comment. I hope that someone in Diego's life cares enough to tell him that his is wonderful and important.

Familia Delgado

Hilario Delgado

Ayer Miguel y yo fuimos a Piedras ayer. Me dio tanta emocion.

Yesterday Miguel and I went to Piedras Negras. I passed by the house in the picture and told Miguel that my family lived there long long ago. Miguel convinced me to stop the car to check out the house. I stopped and before we got out of the car a lady walked out of another home. We saw her, but thought nothing. After observing the house for a couple of minutes I decided to ask the lady if she knew if the house was for rent. This was a pretty dumb question because the home is in very bad shape. She proceeded to tell me that it was not for rent that she had other houses for rent. I told her that my family lived there and she looked at me incrediously, her family had been the owners for the last 50 years. She then asked what was my last name, I said "Delgado" and as soon as I mentioned that information she was very friendly. It so happens that her family bought the house form my family. Not only did she talk to Miguel and I for a long while, but she spoke very highly of my family. She actually knew my grandfather ( I never met him, he passed a year before I was born) and told me that he was born in that house. The owner of the home was Hilario Delgado, he was my grandfather's grandfather who was also the mayor of Ciudad Porfirio Diaz, now known as Piedras Negras in 1898. Her husband and my grandfather were friends. She promised that later on she would let Miguel and I go in the house and look at the garden that also belonged to the home. They said that the house was very beautiful. My father also told me that long ago (about 100 years ago) during a flood, everyone in Piedras took refuge in that house. I know it may look like a pretty ugly house to you, but I have always wanted to buy the house and restore it to what it originally looked like. I hope that one day I can do that, but for now I am happy to be able to talk to the owner and visit the home. A funny fact is that she told me that at one time her husband had turned the home into a funeral home and many people are scared to walk at night in front of the home, the call it the "creepy house," to me it is everything but creepy, in fact, it has a really special vibe to me.

Driver's License

Miguel was able to get his driver's license this week. It is amazing that half a year ago he was not able to get one ID and now he has several. It is wonderful and amazing how life has changed for us. I know, it is sooooo simple to get an ID for me and for most of you, but that was not the case for Miguel, so we are greatful that he can now get it.

Miguel ya obtuvo la licensia. Es impresionante que hace unos meses no podia tener ni siquiera una identificacion, y ahora tiene varias.

NPR News

As I was driving I listened NPR news and they were talking about a website called Politifact.com.
I find NPR news to be a reputable source, so I decided to check the website out.

When I was listening to NPR it turned out that Palin had said that Obama was going to raise a sorts of taxes including income taxes, payroll taxes, the death tax, and business taxes by hundreds of millions of dollars. Politifact found that the Republicans were stretching the truth, the fact is that Obama is looking to discontinue the tax cuts that Bush had given to those families earning above $250,000. It only includes wealthier Americans.

Palin also said that she told Congress "Thanks, but no thanks on the bridge to nowhere," but she exaggerated her role. NPR stated that "once the bridge became known as the bridge to nowhere it became the most famous earmark and became a symbol of wasteful spending." Congress was already killing the bill by the time she said "Thanks, but no thanks," and Alaska still received the funds that would have been allotted to the bridge to nowhere.

I am not saying NPR news is always right, but I think they try to be as unbiased as possible.

If you click on the title, it will take you to the link where you can hear the report.
